Acolyte Ministry

The acolyte ministry is a celebration in the joy of our faith, to understand the meaning of our faith in Jesus Christ, to serve the clergy, and to have fun through our faith and in the fellowship with other acolytes who share our avocation.

Two acolyte advisors, Elizabeth McDuffie and Peter Thibodeau train and update the skills of each young person to properly perform on the altar and with the clergy. They also create, lead and maintain the acolyte schedule. One or more Senior Acolytes are designated to assist the advisors and help lead the other acolytes. They also help plan and implement yearly trips, events, and meetings held periodically throughout the year.

Mission:

To help create a sense of calling within the young people of St. John's Episcopal Church to the serving of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, the clergy and the congregation of our church.

Objectives/Goals:

1. To enlist and train young people in the duties and meanings of being an Acolyte.

2. To instill a faithful dedication towards actively assisting the celebrant in the worship of God.

3. To assist acolytes in understanding the liturgy, service structure and prayers

4. To create a community of acolytes working together towards the glorification of God, and fellowship amongst each other.
