Children's Sunday School
St. John's offers multi-age Children's Sunday School classes on Sunday mornings at 10 am in the Education Building. Pre-K students (children older than 3 by Sept 1) are in the multi-purpose room on the main floor. The K-5th grade class is on the lower level. On many Sundays the classes are merged into one group for lessons.
The children meet in the back of the church during the 10 am service and then walk to classes together after the Collect of the Day to the hymn of ''I want to Walk as a Child of Light.'' The Children are then brought into church to join their families at the Peace. We teach from an Episcopal lectionary-based curriculum, Living the Good News. Throughout the year on select Sundays, we bring the classes together to participate in singing, Godly Play lessons, and larger group craft activities (including preparation and participation of the church float for the Wake Forest Christmas Parade and annual Christmas Pageant). We also hold quarterly Children's Homily and Worship services, during which children have the opportunity to participate in the ministries of greeting, ushering, reading, and preparing the table. Classes typically begin after Labor Day and end before Memorial Day. During the summer children can participate in Summer Sundays with lessons from Sermons4Kids at the 10 am service..
We have a wonderful group of volunteer teachers who make St. John's Children's Sunday School a welcoming and vibrant ministry.
